Unfair predatory early cancellation fees

We paid for reservations to Monterrey Mexico but cancelled 1 MONTH prior to trip due to illness. When I cancelled they accessed a $300 fee. I think that anytime you need to cancel and is well in advance you should get a full refund. That is an unethical practice. I will never book a flight throuh them again.
