Credit from cancelled trip - AIRLINE TICKETS

I am not happy with the response I got from Lauren Supervisor of Orbitz Worldwide.
He said,
"I understand you want to book a new flight using the credit from a cancelled trip. However, we are not in the position to extend the validity of the credit"

What does that mean? Just say you do not honor your word.
My husband was diagnosed with cancer the month before our trip, and he needed a stem cell transplant, couldn't fly. He had the transplant at Mayo clinic in Rochester MN.
I was told by Orbitz that I could reschedule the flight thru August. So when I was given the O.K. From my husband Oncologist, on Aug. 31st clinic appointment, that he could fly I immediatley began the process THAT DAY AUG. 31ST, like Orbitz said I could do, BUT, NO, IT WAS A MESS... Lots of calls and orbitz blaming united, but remember i bought the tickets from you, orbitz, not united... Big, big mistake... Orbitz needs to work with me... They are the ones that took my money... Not united... I bought the tickets from orbitz... Orbitz needs to work on it's customer relations... How will you stay in business if everyone has such a bad experience?
