Air Asia is truly a scam. I purchased a return ticket from Bangkok to Phuket and paid a competitive $120 U.S. For the flight. The real cost proved to be much higher.

As most international travellers I have two check in bags weighing approximately 40 kilos. What Air Asia hides in small print is there is a hefty charge for anything over their allowance of 15 kilos. 15 kilos! That's around 35 pounds and unless you are a backpacker is a ridiculously light amount.

Now get a load of this the extra charges worked out to the same amount as my ticket. That's right $120 in extra charges bringing my ticket total to $240 for a one hour flight each way. Even more ridiculous is the fact that 90 pounds of luggage stored in the underbelly of the plane as cargo costs as much as the seat beside me. Actually more if you consider that a 200 pound passenger seated in an air conditioned seat with television and service is the same amount as his 110 lighter luggage in the cargo area.

Air Asia should be ashamed of holding customers hostage with luggage charges. And to boot they charge you a fee to simply check in your luggage. I believe this is to confuse the customer into thinking this is taken care of and not looking more closely for the hidden extra fee charge (not on the site).

Air Asia from Bangkok to Phuket is truly a ripoff. You can fly Thai Airways for the same amount or Nok Airways or 123Go for less.
