Travelocity
Beware - Deceptive, undisclosed policies about "packages!"

Traveling & Tourism

I needed to purchase airline tickets and after receiving a gazillion emails from Travelocity, I decided to give them a try. Both Travelocity and the airlines were quoting the same prices but I didn't have an "account" with the airline of my choice so I decided to book through Travelocity. As I was completing my purchase of the airline tickets a message came up about some good deals available on hotels and I decided to add one of the hotels to my airline ticket purchase.

Yesterday (14 days before our scheduled trip) I realized that the hotel I booked with Travelocity was over a mile from our destination and we weren't planning to rent a car. I searched and found another hotel that was much closer, MUCH cheaper and offered MORE amenities. Before calling to cancel our hotel reservation with Travelocity, I read all of the fine print contained in Travelocity's policies which clearly stated that my hotel reservation could be cancelled with NO penalty as long as I called 3 days prior to our departure.

When I called Travelocity to cancel my hotel I was INFORMED that because I had purchased the hotel along with my plane reservations, it was now considered a "PACKAGE" which meant that NO PORTION of our trip could be cancelled without cancelling the entire trip! Oh, and penalties did apply to cancelling the airline tickets that I didn't want to cancel and it would have been impossible to rebook the airline reservations so we were now stuck with a "package" that I never asked for in the first place!

Nowhere in Travelocity's policies can you find anything about their rules for "packages". I asked my Customer Care representative if he was aware that this "all or nothing package policy" was not disclosed, mentioned or written in their policy. He confirmed that there was no mention of thier "package policy" but it was indeed Travelocitiy's policy.

We are now stuck staying at a hotel for 6 days that we do not want to stay at because Travelocity tricked us into purchasing the hotel room along with the purchase of our airline tickets. Seems like a pretty fraudulent, deceptive way to run a travel business in my opinion. I will never deal with Travelocity again and will do my very best to make others aware of their fraudulent practices! I hope this information helps someone else!
