AT&T
Unfair practices. At&t charged me for a phone service that i can't use without purchasing their other services!

Shops, Products, Services

I recently purchased a new fax machine for my home in order to make things more convenient for my household. I then signed up for home phone service with AT&T with the sole purpose of setting up my new fax line. I did so online and even had a conversation with an online associate by the name of Anna A. Through their live person chat window. She stayed on the live chat with me for over an hour.

I was very inquisitive about their services and charges (mainly because a few of them sounded fishy to me.) I ordered their Complete Choice Basic package which was supposed to offer a "free installation charge". After I ordered the service. I received an email telling me that they would contact me in 24 hours to set up the service. (Which was really a ploy to see if my funds would go through.) 24 hours later they sent us an email that stated that they had set up the service on 4/5 and that I wouldn't have to be home for the installation. Huh?

At this point I was confused and called them to set up the actual installation, which the average person would believe to be someone coming out to their home and putting in a phone jack. The issue is that I do not have a phone jack set up in my home at all. So how can they offer me a free installation for a phone service and not send someone out to install the phone jack that is needed to initiate the phone service?

They told us that they set up the service but in order to get a phone jack set up that I would have to pay an additional $140 to send out a serviceman. The monthly service charge is $24 and they already charged our credit card with a $50 pre-payment fee. We have to wait a month to get that back because the phone was setup on a new billing cycle. We haven't used the service at all, so why do we have to wait for a billing cycle to end. I'm not being billed for anything!

Not including the questionable $11 Package and Vertical line fee for establishing the new service. Also they were going to charge us a monthly $3.50- 5.50 fee for "not publicly publishing our number", another questionable practice.

I have had several home phones in the past and have never heard of a phone company charging their customers to put in a phone jack. It is an ""integral" part of setting up the phone service. I cannot use the phone without it. All they did was give me a phone number. I guess that was the "free installation" charge, huh. I cancelled my order with they and will never trust that company again.

Hidden charges. Unfair practices. No phone jack. I got jacked by AT&T!!!
