Inaccurate information leads to credit report damage

Finance Systems of Toledo is a collection agency that out to be ashamed of themselves. They do not care about finding out the truth about their accounts, or about customer service.
In I had to have major surgery. The entire surgery was covered by insurance except for $900. The agreement was that I would pay half, and my parents would pay the other half. I paid my half in cash, and the doctors office wrote a contract for payment with my parents.
After the medical bill was not paid, FST decided if they werent getting the money from my parents, they would simply just switch the bill to my name. Im pretty sure this isnt legal, but FST does whatever they want to get money. They were still sending the bill to my parents house, just switched the name. I had no knowledge that this switch was made, as I no longer lived at that house. After finding out about this mistake, I felt bad and just paid for it.
Somehow, I overpaid the bill. They sent a refund check, except they didnt send it to me. They sent it to my father, thus proving that they knew the bill was in his name first.
Years later, I was applying for a furniture store credit card and was denied. My credit scores are all over 700, so I did some investigating. I found out that I had a collection from Finance Systems of Toledo.
I called FST to explain the situation. They tried to pass the buck around to everyone but themselves. They blamed it on the doctor, Equifax, and me. I called for 3 weeks and a supervisor was never available. They began hanging up on me, and refused to transfer me when I called.
When I threatend to get a lawyer involved, thats when they started pretending to listen. After explaining my situation the woman told me that they never sent a refund check, and I must be making it up as their computers are very accurate. After confronting them with a check number and issue date, they still told me I was making it up.
This company out to be ashamed of themselves. They take absolutely no diligence in validating their accounts. Their lack of customer service skills, immature collusion on the phone, and refusal to seek the truth ought to put them out of business. They do not deserve the right to do any reporting to the big 3 credit agencies.
Frustrated, I called an attorney. The item is no longer on my credit report.
