I had a small business in Oklahoma, a restaurant and bar. We had Dish Network satellite TV. Sometime in 2003, someone opened a Direct TV account and started charging it to our business credit card. Our accountant never caught it; she just assumed we had Direct TV. Our manager never caught it either; she just assumed we had Direct TV. The bills were received and paid by check.
It was only after I sold the business that I received a call from a collection agency saying I owed 33 dollars for my Direct TV account. I thought, "Wait a minute, I thought we had Dish Network." We did.
After I contacted Direct TV, I was informed that I would have to prove that I had actually paid the charges. That meant going back and finding every charge on several credit cards and bank accounts. If you have bogus charges, there is only a fax number where you can send your "copies of credit card statements" and so on. If they don't feel like responding, I guess you are out of luck.
I am at the point of contacting an attorney and just handing it off to him, and trying to get punitive damages for damaging my credit and for charging me for a service never rendered.
