Sold seriously flawed, chipped, gouged diamonds in eternity style ring and won't even look at it

I had a wedding ring made for me. Agreed to $2000 price with 1 carat of SI diamonds in a platinum eternity band. Well when I got the ring it looked ok except that I could see some stones were not set level throughout the setting, so the owner visibly seemed miffed as she shoved a marking pen at me and said to mark the ones I wanted fixed. I should have walked out then with my 2K, but I knew this woman and consider her a friend.

So the ring was supposedly fixed and it looked ok to my naked eye. So I paid her and also bought a white gold ring for my future husband.

About four years later I was having the ring cleaned and the jeweler pointed out to me that several of the diamonds had serious issues and it just so happened to be in the area where there was a big gouge in the platinum setting and about 3 or 4 stones either side of that gouge were either chipped, laser gouged, or both.

I now live about 3,000 miles away and wrote to her ahead of my husband visiting the area. When he walked into the store she wouldn't even look at the ring or talk to him. So he left!

Then back home an overnight envelope arrives with a letter stating that a restraining order had been taken out on me due to the slanderous allegations I was making on her. Well that was a lie to because no such thing was filed... I checked. Another lie.

So I can't find the receipt any longer for the ring. (I'm still looking though).

I'm stuck with junk for diamonds. I was ripped off. I supose I should not trust a friend for a jeweler or vice versa. She knows the stones are junk. She lied. Otherwise a reputable jeweler would gladly want to look at the very very least take a look at the ring!!! Right?

Am I suposed to look at each and every diamond in a setting like this with a loupe first before paying? I will now if it ever happens again!!! They turned out not to be all SI like I wanted either. The diamonds are of little or no value.

I feel I have no recourse but to try to alert others before they buy what they think are nice stones in any jewelry from her. All I want is a refund of the price I paid!
