Windstream sold my info to marketers

Contacted Windstream to install a phone line at my new business. They told me what my new phone number would be but, because the new phone books had just been delivered, the number would appear in the next edition. A few days before the install, I decided to use a different provider for phone service and I called to cancel. The cancellation didn't go too well because the install guy showed up anyway and I had to send him away, AND I rec'd a bill for the install and first month's service. After a couple of phone calls I convinced them that the install had never happened and the service was never connected.

What a surprise I got in the following weeks as I rec'd sales pitches from various companies who somehow had the never-installed phone number listed along with my address. Since the number had never appeared in the phone book and was never available anywhere online AND because I had never given it out, I can only conclude that Windstream must have sold the information.
