Cordless Drill Lifetime Warranty Replaces Only Within 30 Days

In November 2006 I bought a cordless hammer drill kit, 24-volt, of the Rigid line. One thing alone made me choose this house brand from Home Depot: Rigid comes with a free lifetime warranty. In December, both the chuck and the trigger of the drill broke.
Late in December I took the kit back to Home Depot, hoping for a replacement or a refund. The customer service staff told me that a replacement under the lifetime warranty applied only when failure happened in the first 30 days following purchase. Beyond that, the drill would go to the factory for refurbishing, taking between 60 and 90 days. There is no loaner offered during those 90 days, though they were glad to offer me another drill for sale to use in the meantime.
Customer service gave me a pair of scissors at my request, and I cut my Home Depot card into little pieces. Be warned about that lifetime warranty at Home Depot.
