Ripoff excessive price for average quality bait & trap practices unresponsive & irresponsible mgmt

Shops, Products, Services

I called MaidPro in December to clean my house. I was referred to the company by a friend who said she had used them once and was very happy. I have since learned that just because one franchise is good does not make them all good.

I was given a quote OVER THE PHONE based on the "total sq ft" and total number of rooms in my home. Never mind how much of that was actually going to be cleaned (2 of the rooms would not even be touched). I was told not to worry - I would only be charged for the time they are here (he quoted me an hourly rate), and the quote is a max price, not necessarily what I'll have to pay. So I relunctantly agreed to give the guy my CC# over the phone prior to services being rendered (BIG mistake, do not EVER fall for this scam).

When they came, I had the flu and was unable to watch what they did, but they seemed to be ok. They did not do a "great" job but it wasn't terrible. I looked at my clock when they arrived, and again when I was signing their sheet as they left. I was a little put-off by them spraying air-freshener all over the house to make it "smell clean" but whatever. When they left I asked if there was something I signed to agree to the time they were charging me for and they said no. I knew in my gut this was going to be a problem, but I tried to remain optimistic.

The next day I called the office and inquired about how much time was charged. They had charged me for the full quote amount! I asked to see what times they logged as arriving / leaving but the person I talked to could not give me any information. She said she would call me back. She never did. And so I called again and left a message. And again, and again. Then I emailed the owner of the franchise, Roy Vaughn (whom I'm now convinced either died or just doesn't have a clue about how to treat a customer). I have yet to hear from him.

I contacted Citibank (the CC I used) and told them what happened. They agreed they would do an investigation and asked how much I should have been charged. On my small house (that only a portion of was cleaned) I was charged the max amount, $195!! We submitted a dispute for $135. After a few months, Citibank sent me a letter stating the issue had been "resolved" and that the credit was permanantly back on my account. Now it is July (8 months later).

Just a few days later I received a collection notice for that very same amount (plus $4.20, I'm assuming that's how much it costs to file a collection) I called Citibank back again, and they just blew me off this time, and said they were staying out of it. So — a side warning, don't trust the Buyer Protection, it is absolutely WORTHLESS.

So then again, I emailed Mr. Vaughn, and cc'd the president, Richard Sparacio, and founder, Mark Kushinsky, who forwarded my email to Jessika Dubay, the franchise coordinator. Ms. Dubay then forwarded my email back Mr. Vaughn, which did nothing to spark any action.

Word to the wise, don't do business with MaidPro. There are so many other better, more reputable companies around. Just because they charge and arm and a leg doesn't make them better, it just makes you a sucker for falling for their "bait & trap" tactics!
