Extremely Poor Customer Service as well as Deceptive Practices

I attempted to sign up for Vonage. Upon realizing all the extra requirements, having an additional phone line for my internet service, I decided within 2 hours of signing up I didn't want it. So I attempted to contact their customer service. That, was a joke!

I got a woman on the phone who proceeded to argue with me about whether or not I could cancel the service. She told me that the device has already been shipped and I would have to wait until I recieve the device to cancel my service. I wanted the entire order to be cancelled and since the device hadn't been shipped yet, I saw no reason why this couldn't be done. That to me was unacceptable.

I proceeded to contact DHL, they informed me that they had yet to recieve the shipment information. So, the customer service rep for Vonage basically lied to me. After nearly 40 minutes on the phone, I was assured the service was cancelled and that I would not be charged. She also told me a confirmation email would be sent to me.

Nearly an entire day after cancelling the service I had yet to recieve a confirmation email. I had to place another call to Vonage. This time, the customer service rep told me that my cancellation had NOT been processed like I had been told. Now, not only did I have the headache of having to spend another 40 minutes on the phone, I have been told that I will be charged $39.99 for the early cancellation fee as well as one month service and activation fee totaling $80.62.

So, on top of having to pay my current phone service I have to pay Vonage for something I never even used. To top it off, the device was never shipped to me from Vonage. I'm so disappointed in the deception as well as the lack of customer service I recieved.

How can they charge me when 1) the device was never shipped to me, I couldn't have used the service if I wanted to and 2) they have a 30 day guarantee? I'm really disappointed. I'm not paying them $80.62 for a service I never recieved or used.
