Just in case anyone is a month to month Alltel service plan user, be aware your service contract most likely says nothing about needing to provide a 30 day termination notice, nor does the stated policy on the Alltel website. Today, I called to cancel my service, and the insolent service rep told me I was 2 days into my next billing cycle, so it would be June 20th before service could be cancelled.

What? I'm a month to month subscriber. Alltel's posted Agreement for Communications Services policy states (from website):

"Termination By You
a. Fixed Term. If you subscribe to a Service for a fixed term and you terminate the Service before the end of the term, or if you do not honor any advance notice of termination requirement, then you will be required to pay us an early cancellation fee as specified on your Service Order.in addition, you remain liable for payment of all outstanding charges for all Services you used and Equipment you purchased prior to termination. B. Month-to-Month Term. You may terminate a Service to which you subscribe on a month-to-month basis at any time by notifying us. You remain liable for payment of all outstanding charges for all Services you used and Equipment you purchased prior to termination. C. Bundled Services. If you receive special rates in return for subscribing to multiple Services ("bundling") and you subsequently unbundle, terminate, or disconnect any of these Services at any time, then we may adjust the rates for the remaining Service (s). D. Change in Location. A change in your service address or the location to which any Service is provided to you may constitute your termination of that Service."

I informed her my service contract nor the website include anything about a 30 day termination notice, and she should cancel immediately. No dice. I then requested to speak with her manager, and waited on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up the phone.

I called back and spoke with another rep who was far more cooperative, and understood why I was angry about my first call assuring me there was no need to go to speak with his manager..

Most important, he knew the contract should have been cancelled today, not in 30 days, and took care of it.

Alltel is probably doing this to others, so be careful when you cancel services.
