They got me as well. Let me suggest if you, the reader, see anything resembling Freecreditreport.com and anything close to mentioning CIC — run, close the page and take cover. Let me tell you my story. I don't even remember when i crossed their ad or mass junk mail. Any how, i do remember filling the forms where they asked me for my Discover card as part of verification process. Well, I have no idea why at the time the alarm in my head didn't tell me to..., — run. To make the story short. I looked at the half way something resembling report and quickly forgot about it. It took me about two month to one day look over my Discover Card statement. To my big surpise i find that "CIC Credit Monitoring" and $9.95 and one more, and more, thank you very much charge. I called the # to at least stop any more charges. Poor me laughing over the phone when the lady on the other side told me that the charges are not refunded. It took me 3 month to try to dispute those charges, and to my amazement they would somehow convince Discover Card to get those charges back to my account. So the moral of this story is that they are "legal" thievs, probably with the well equipped army of lawers on their side, and fairly beligerent thievs too. My advice, is the same as the the one given to Neo in the movie called Metrix — when you see them! — Run as fast as you can! You cannot win!
