Below is a letter I had prepared for AT&T

My Saga with your company began with discontinuing my home land line telephone service.

I trusted that I would receive the service I needed from AT&T. I ordered four phones. Two of the four phones arrived. Unfortunately they were the phones our son & daughter had chosen. After several weeks of waiting I called AT&T and spent a total of 3.35 minutes on the phone. I was told that I was not approved for four phones even though I had all the paperwork from internet stating that I was.

I threatened leaving AT&T, the employee coaxed me into staying. I asked what I needed to do to get the other two phones, they said I would need to give them a deposit. I told them I would call them later that week when I could afford this unexpected expense. Upon calling later that week I was told there was no reason for me to pay a deposit, a mistake had been made and they were very cordial and apologetic, and we finally received our phones without a deposit.

After the adult phones arrived over a month later, I discover that our phones were roaming in our own home. After explaining my dilemma, the ATT employee informed me that I could not cancel because my trial month had already passed, though the adults had not received their phone. After speaking to a supervisor she informed me they could change my plan from national plan to local to avoid roaming charges. At this time the amount of minutes were the same. (This was changed later giving me less minutes than original).

My wife regularly made the comment that she felt as if I was having an affair with AT&T. Because of sacrificing most of my spare time with family. Every bill that I examined had errors. Each monthly bill took around 2 hours to look over. I would spend an average of 3 hours on the phone with AT&T employees and supervisor. The supervisors would look over my account and apologize for all the obvious mistakes they had made with my account. Each supervisor would assure me they would credit my account. Though a credit was received as records indicate, it was always a lesser amount agreed upon on the phone. Several times I would request a detailed list of corrections made over the phone which they informed me it was impossible.

One of the last supervisors I spoke toabout being charged for all long distance, said it was perplexing how much trouble I had with my account.

All of the AT&T customer service employees were very polite & apologetic with the exception of the last gentleman I spoke to.

Later I discovered that all phone calls to Senatobia which is about 25 miles from Southaven, my home were considered long distance in the local plan, this was a problem in that my daughters best friend lives there. I later discovered that when my daughter was at her house, she was charged roaming charges. Later I was told due to the merger I could switch back to the national plan to remedy this problem. Now the minutes for this plan were less.

The last 3 months of my contract I was told I no longer had cell to cell coverage due to no contract being signed, this brought my bill to over 1000 dollars. They told me if I would sign the contract they would credit these. I paid one of these outrageous bills and discontinued using the phones, realizing that I only had 2 more months on my supposed contract The next month I was charged full early cancellation fees for four phones, probably due to late payments.

I was surprised when I saw the cancellation fee on my bill. A week after this my daughter was involved in a serious accident that has left her with Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy, many hospital visits and her being unable to attend school for several months have taken much of my time that I would ordinarily spend on my AT&T rendezvous. Though my daughter is still experiencing excruciating pain, and I would like to be with her instead of spending more time with AT&T, I am convinced I must do what I can to end this harassment from the collection agency. Though they have made it clear I have no right to complain since this debt is over 90 days.

Unfortunately, ATT turned this over to 2 collection agencies that has been the opposite of the courteous apologetic ATT employees, not to mention the many times they have awakened my daughter from much needed sleep due to her staying up screaming with pain for up to 7 hours straight.

To add to my distress I am reminded how they are going to report this to the credit agencies and threatened that this would destroy my credit. Of course, as I told them this will hurt me due to my daughter hopefully going to college in 2 years since I would require a student loan. Though the reality is she may be unable to attend college due to being diagnosed with an incurable neurological problem.

Please take the time to review my account closely, since every employee that has looked at the account said it was obvious to them that major mistakes had been made on my account and correct any damage with credit reporting agencies they have caused.

Throughout my nightmare AT&T continually broke their word in our supposed verbal contract.
