Veteran's 10% discount was not allowed as salespersons stated - Samsung 28 Cu Ft French Door Refrigerator in Black

We made 2 trips into Home Depot inquiring about buying a Samsung 28 Cu. Ft. French door refrigerator. We were told we were eligible for Veterans discount of 10%. We even had salesperson call to verify the discount didn't have to be taken on Veterans day. We were assured the discount was available until 12/4. On our 3rd trip to Home Depot we told the appliance salesperson who stated she was the manager we wanted to buy the refrigerator. We gave our printout of the information/specs from our previous visits and showed proof of veteran status and asked to get the 10% discount. She said the other salespeople must have misquoted us and the Veterans discount was not available with the current sale. She said the veterans ID was not valid for their sale and asked how long the buyer served in the armed forces. He said 6 years and she said well his ID was not on the accepted list of IDs. The ID stated he was Armed Forces of the United States with finger prints and was issued by the US Army. But they are saying he doesn't qualify as a Veteran. I explained I was buying a home and was going to buy many items from Home Depot including 2 pellet stoves, wood flooring, doors, hardware and I was going to spend a lot of money there. The store manager contacted her supervisor and they both dismissed us like it was insignificant and not worthy of their attention. I was prepared to spent thousands of dollars at Home Depot on the spot but changed my mind when I was dismissed as insignificant. They said if we had been there on Veterans day they would have honored the discount. We had been told specifically AFTER Veterans day it was applicable. So we walked out. Without our refrigerator, without our pellet stoves and doors. And we don't feel very good about the customer service we received from Home Depot! I have shopped at Home Depot for years and spent a lot of money there. I am very disappointed that they did not give us the price we were promised!
