Theft from luggage at Jet Blue in New Orleans

On June 19th, 9:40A.M. Flight from New Orleans to New York JFK A purse was stolen from my luggage. I have no hope for satisfaction in this matter, but I think you should know about this. New Orleans is infamous for criminal activities of all sorts, but it is very upsetting when you can not even travel without having your luggage pilfered. We can not lock our luggage for security reasons and I fully understand this, but what can we do to protect ourselves from this abusive mentality?
