I came in to cash a check I had received from my last job since I had lost my job. I decided I was going to take my kids out for ice cream once I had went to UNbank to cash it. Well to my surprise, the lady at the window told me that I had took out a loan with Unbank a few years ago at another location and that she could not give me my check back because I owed the company.

I was shocked that they could get away with this. I did remember getting a payday loan from them some years ago which i was not able to pay and had to file bankruptcy since I had some financial problems. I immediately left the location and called the police. The police told me that that there was nothing that they could do and that I would have to take them to civil court.

I felt like I was totally violated because the woman took my check through the window and told me she could not give it back to me. I told her that it was not her check to convescate. She said thats the way they do business there. When you owe money to someone you can take them to court and make payment arrangements to give them the opportunity to pay. But they did not attempt that.

I felt she stole my check in my name that did not belong to UNbank! I hope that no other check cashing companies where you can take a loan out can just do this to a person without taking them to court.
