Verizon is the Worst

I pay my bills online through my bank. My Verizon bill was $49.64, I forgot the decimal point (my mistake) I paid them $4,964.00, that was over a month ago and I still can't get my money back. I have spent hours on the phone talking to so many diff Verizon people I lost count of how many. They tell me they need proof my bank paid them? They gave me a number and told me to fax a copy of my bank statement. I was reluctant but asked to whose attention I should send it. They said anyone could take care of it. I faxed it and two days later call and was told they didn't get it. I asked for a superviser and was told one was not avaiable but one would call me. Two days later I called and wanted to talk to a superviser, finally got to talk to Steven a superviser. He said they needed proof my bank paid them. I told him I received a bill the day before where the took out the 49.64, the next months bill and I still had a credit of over $4,800. He said they needed proof my bank paid them? I told him I faxed my statement. He asked to who? I needed to put attention to someone or it would be thrown away. I asked if it would help if I closed my accout then they would have to send me my refund. He then offered to transfer me to that dept. How's that for customer service? That's when I lost it and hung up. I then went to the Verizon store where a nice lady called for me. She was told I need to send my bank statement with a specific cover page, which they would fax her within 24 to 48 hours. She asked can't someone just walk over to a fax machine and just fax it? They said no. Three days later I called the nice lady and was told she had not received the fax but would call.in the meantime my bank has contacted version and sent them copies of my bank statement. My bank was told they would send me a check. That was two weeks ago. Still no check! I am now considering hiring a lawyer to see if I can file a lawsuit. I still get mail from Verizon, wanting me to sign up for fios, yea right. I am trying to find out if I can get phone service from another provider for my land line.
