Defect lawn tractor - Craftsman lawn tracto

I purchased a lawn tractor a 42 inch cut. I started it and it made a popping sound. It went dead and would not start again. I took it to the mechanic and he took the motor apart and it had blown the cylinder walls all to pieces. I called Sears and they said that a new motor would cost around 1,200 but it would be different model # because they had discontiued the one that we had because of problems. Also said my maintence agreement had run out 2 days before. I refuse to pay sears until they fix it and now am being sued. Also sitting with a lemon sign on it in yard and posted on facebook with a picture.
