Interest-free promo payments not applied, bill now over $10,000

I got duped. I had to buy a new heating and A/C unit for my condo that I am renting because the old one was on the brink. I am deaf, and I had no option at the time to make a major purchase except to take their 12-month interest-free promo offer. Before the promo offer expired, the minimum payment was 12 dollars a month for my revolving purchase. I was paying more than the minimum, sometimes 50, 70 to 100 a month. Then I noticed they were not applying any payments toward the promo offer. I had to call them to request that they do this. I was never told to do this, but only found out when I called and questioned it.
Due to my low income from slow business in this economy, I am presently looking for another job, but it has been quite futile to land one. After the promo offer expired, I was slapped with a whammy minimum payment of 280 a month. When I called the customer account specialist, they claimed there are no programs for help since it is a promo offer. I have regretted making a major purchase with them.
There have been many problems with the heat and A/C installed by the contractor they hired, Harmony Heating. I had to purchase a service contract through the oil company that delivered the oil, in order for them to repeatedly come to the house to repair the unit. It went on for a year. More problems started up in October, with getting no heat, due to the pump failing to pump oil from the basement to the second floor. With the old unit, I never had this problem. Now I am socked with a high finance charge and late fee.
I inquired through a credit counseling agency, and they claimed I cannot get the program due to low income. They advised me to file bankruptcy. I then met with a lawyer, who told me I did not qualify. I told the customer service at Home Depot about my situation. They still cannot help me. I have to sell my condo now to pay off this huge Home Depot bill, which is now over $10,000. The major purchase for the heat and A/C unit was $8,975.06, with a revolving balance of $862, both at 29.99 APR. The total bill is now $10,004.56. I am at my wits' end. I am trying so hard to resolve this, but I keep getting a dead end. If I have to sell my condo, that can take a long time, since this economy has been terrible for some time now. Yes, I am between a rock and a hard place. If only they would see that I am having a hardship, but they insist there is no help. I will never buy a thing from them again!
If you can advise me, I would appreciate it.
