Standard Satellite Installed Instead of HD, $400 Cancellation Fee

I ordered HD, and they came out and installed normal satellite. I called to ask about this, and they said they could upgrade me to HD for more money. I cancelled service, and they said I had to pay a $400.00 cancellation fee. I refused to pay, as I had no contract with them. They said that talking to them obligated me to their contract. I complained, and they passed my account to a collection agency. They threatened to report this to the credit agency and damage my credit ratings.

My advice is to stay as far away from DirectTV as possible. Read the hundreds of problems here on usacomplaints.com and the thousands of problems on other internet spots. Direct TV's policies make even Comcast look good.
