Ropped Into A False Contract

I had Direct TV installed and did not receive the complete package (all the channels) I was told I would receive. I called and complained, got nothing but excuses. I then canceled the service and was told I would be charged over $300.00 for a cancellation fee. When I called to have the service installed I was told I was under 'no contract'. I also was not given any contract to sign. Apparently, upon paying your first bill (in fine print on the back) you agree to All Terms And Conditions (that's all it basically says). So you're nailed, and have to seek legal council, or pay up, for receiving nothing. How can they do that?
