Not the "Hassle Free" card

My Capitol One card was stolen in October. Within an hour of it being stolen, I contacted Capitol One to report the incident. I followed up with a letter to the company and provided them with a police report and a copy of a letter from the reporting police officer.

When I received my next statement from Capitol One following that incident, I saw that there was a charge made on my card for that date and contacted Capitol One immediately to dispute the charge. It was for $39.40 at a gas station in the next town over.

A month later Capitol One sent me a letter in the mail saying that the charge was legitimate and provided me with copies of the receipts from the gas station, as their reason for not removing the charge from my account. I immediately contacted Capitol One and disputed the charge for a second time. To this day I have not received anything from Capitol One regarding my second dispute and the charge was never removed from my account.

I have since paid off and closed my account and recently filed a report with the FTC.

Capitol One's claim that they are "hassle free" is a fraudulent statement. My entire purse was stolen that day and I had a few credit card companies to contact as well as my bank, not to mention an account that was opened by the theives in my name, and Capitol One was the only company that made it difficult to report the stolen card to and has been the biggest hassle of all!!!
