Weekly Trash Pickup - Trash Pickup

This past fall, in Portland, OR Waste Management, in conjunction with the City of Portland started a food composting program within the city limits. The plan is to have residents start throwing their food into their yard debris bin instead of the trash. They also stopped picking up garbage on a weekly basis and changed this to bi-weekly.

We are already forced to use Waste Management as our trash service - no other option. Now they want to pick up trash every other week, which means they are assuming half of everyone's trash is food, or they want you to purchase a larger garbage can and pay a higher monthly rate.

I am happy to say that today I canceled my service and will begin taking my own trash to the recycling center from here on out and I couldn't be happier about it. Not to mention I will be saving money!
