For basic details on PC Care 247 (as a scammy service) scroll to final paragraph.
My computer was crashing and behaving strangely. I googled
'dell support' and called this company after viewing a very misleading link
That appears at the top of the google search page (dell-support. Pccare247.com.Au). I spoke with PC Care 247 employee Kavita Verma - I do not know if I can verify this name.
At the beginning of the conversation I asked Kavita if the
Number I had called was the online support service offered by Dell for their
Customers. She told me it was. I have now discovered that PC Care 247 is not
Affiliated with Dell in any direct service relation. Kavita asked for my Dell
Computers service tag and my name. This further implied the false message that
PC Care 247 was some official service provider for Dell this is not the case.
After remotely inspecting my computer, Kavita stirred a
Great deal of panic in me. Telling me that my computer had over 1000s viral
Infections and a hacker file present. Through a remote sharing system she
Showed me the apparent hacker file csrss. Exe which she asked me to google
Whilst on the phone with her. Google links tell you that csrss. Exe can be a
Trojan file unless located in the folder C: WindowsSystem32.in the panic of
It all I paid no attention to the latter detail (that it can be a harmless and
Genuine windows system file). At this point Kavita said I needed to upgrade
My service subscription so more advanced technicians could work on this very
Threatening problem and save my computer and security. I agreed to the
Purchase. I entered the details of my my fathers AMEX card (with his
Permission) online to purchase a service upgrade. Suspiciously the security
Number would not fit in the online box. Kavita told me I could provide it
Verbally over the phone. I should not have done this and my father has observed
An unrecognisable billing of $15 from the name David Keeping. The card has
Been cancelled. I suspect his credit card information has been used illegally
And if the card had not been cancelled would continue to be charged in small
Inconspicuous amounts.
Having upgraded my warranty (a warranty that I never originally
Had with PC Care 247, but was falsly told I did) I was able to talk with more
Qualified technicians that would be able to fix my computer. An Amar Mishra
Worked on my computer through remote screensharing for about an hour and said
The problems were fixed. He contradicted Kavita in saying that there were 2
Viral file when I asked about hackers and the thousands of viral files
(mentioned by Kavita) he could not confirm this. Soon after he fixed my
Computer it crashed again, displaying identical behaviour that initiated my
Concern. For seven hours in total, over the past two days I have been engaged
With PC Care 247 staff, trying to fix the problem. It is obvious that they are
Not qualified and do not have the skill set to fix my computer. Over the
Sessions they became increasingly despondent and now will not answer my calls.
There is now no service at all, anytime, from the (dodgy) 24x7 service I have
Paid for.in my belief that PC Care 247 are fraudulent I do not want them to
Ever access my computer again. I am concerned that they have installed
Suspicious software on my computer and we be having this inspected by the
Proper Dell service.
To cut a long story short, PC Care 247 lied about who they were,
Mislead me into thinking my computer was under serious threat, failed to fix
The problems I described, and I suspect have used my fathers credit card
Details inappropriately and without our knowledge. I feel that it is very risky
For anyone to get involved with the company.
