In September Comcast came out to my house to install my cable. The very first thing I said when they walked in the door was that I had my own modem and didn't need theirs. The installers took quite a while doing the installation and left without telling me my temporary name and password in order to set up my e-mail. The first thing I had to do was call tech support in order to do what they should have told me before they left. They did such a great job that someone had to come out the next day and fix what they messed up.

Anyway, I was having problems for the first month and at one point when I called tech support I was asked for my modem's serial number. It was hard to read and when I went to the box it came in so I could read it better, I found it didn't match the number on the modem they installed.

To make a long story short, the installers stole *my* modem and left me a Comcast one. I am now being billed for a monthly rental charge. I have complained numerous times and today I was told that this was investigated three times and it was determined that my modem never left my house! Well, where did it go?

If they felt there was a problem with my modem, which was brand new, I have another modem that they could have used.

There is no reason on this earth that I would rent a modem from them when I had two perfectly good modems that I owned.

I'm still waiting for Comcast to do something but in the meantime I have contacted the Consumer Affairs Office. There may be nothing I can do because I can't *prove* that they took the modem. Even the work order has the original serial number of *my* modem on it (scratched out) and replaced with the Comcast serial number.

It looks like I may have to return their modem and simply take the loss in order to have the rental charges removed.

So, everyone, watch your installers when they come to your house. You may be allowing a thief in. Keep an eye on them at all times and you won't have to go through what I am going through.
