Gold's Will Not Cancel Contract for Any Reason

Had a membership for 2 years, which ran out in February 08.in October I signed up again on the 9th, and then went out of town for almost a month. During that trip, my situation changed and it made it impractical for me to continue the membership.

Today, 11-6-08, I called and asked that my membership be cancelled. I was given unadulterated legal noise about the iron-clad nature of my contract, i.E. My only options were to submit a letter that I have moved, or sell the contract to someone else (for a $100 transfer fee!). I couldn't get any higher in the corporate chain than the second-level flunky.

DO NOT PATRONIZE GOLD'S GYM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! If they don't understand that customer service generates far more business in the long run than being corporate jerks, they don't deserve your business. Find a gym that knows how to treat people well and reward them for their attitude.
