Restoring a 1925 house on my own, I am a single woman with limited income. HD has been my only store for the past 15-20 years, and in the last year I likely left 15-20k there.
November found me looking for a 10' 1x12, but a damaged one was all that remained. Could it be discounted, I asked, because part of it was usable. The manager, Quentin, said no.
Two weeks back I returned for another 2-3k purchase. Since I spend so much there and advertise for them free, I asked for a little flexibility. They did not seem willing, and it felt like my business meant nothing to them.
No, I do not spend 100k annually, but a big share of my paycheck ends up there, so I can do the work myself. Given the state of the economy, HD ought to be working to keep customers.
Lowe's is where I went instead. Staff there bent over backwards to assist with everything I wanted, and unlike HD's people, they never made me feel that spending time on me was a burden. Prices were far lower, and an extra 10% came off.
Count me as converted. Here in Colonial Heights, Va., Lowe's wins easily over Home Depot's poor service.
