Beware when you move or change phone number! Ripoff Internet

Here is my story.

I had Verizon Wireless service for several years, then I moved from New York to Maryland. When I got to Maryland I went to the Verizon Wireless store here and asked to have my phone number changed. They changed the number and all of my contact information including my new bank account information for auto deduction of payments.

What they didn't tell me is that they didn't change the phone number on my existing account, they simply opened a new account for me and closed the old account. However, they did not change my bank account information on the old account, so the final payment on the old account was never deducted from my bank account.

A few months later, I get a bill from a collection agency for the last payment on my old phone. I pay it immediately. However, they make a note on my credit report that not only did I have an overdue payment, but that I skipped town! I remained Verizon's customer the whole time, how could they say I skipped town! They knew exactly where I was and how to get in touch with me. They need to clearly communicate to their customers the process that happens when you get a new phone number.

I sent a complaint letter to Verizon Wireless that was ignored, which of course just continues to show how much they disregard their customers.

I have NEVER had a late payment until now and my credit scrore dropped because of this report. While not enough to hurt my credit, it is unfair to me and it is poor customer care on the part of Verizon Wireless.

I am no longer a customer of theirs and refuse to do business with a company that treats loyal customers in this manner.
