Best Buy charges restocking fee even if product is defective. Unfair return policy. Ripoff!

I bought a handheld GPS unit from Best Buy, Carson City. Being in Real Estate, I needed it to mark the corners of a property. One of the corners was already marked with a State of Nevada Brass Marker (meaning the latitude and longitude was surveyed and therefore 100% accurate).

Testing the GPS unit at the known brass marker, the unit was extremely inaccurate. It was at least 30 feet off which rendered it useless for my purposes. I needed to be within 10 feet which is what the product claims it's accuracy to be. It was a Magellan product, by the way.

I returned it to Best Buy and told them it was defective. I did not want a replacement unit, because I decided to purchase a very expensive GPS program for my Palm Treo instead. I simply wanted my money back.

They refused to give me a 100% refund. They charged me a $25 restocking fee on a $100 product. I spoke to the manager who clearly doesn't understand customer service.

I USED to use Best Buy for all my electronics needs, but I will never shop there again.in fact, I recently went out of my way to purchase a computer from Circuit City in Reno. Best Buy's loss.

All in all Best Buy will be out thousands and thousands of dollars that I would have spent over the years to come. All for a mere $25 bogus restocking fee for a product that was clearly defective.

What's wrong with you Best Buy? If it's broken, you need to take it back and refund your customer's money 100%. What you're doing is stealing.
