Home Depot
Ripoff overcharged did sloppy work

Education & Science

Here is the letter we emailed to Home Depot. Unfortunately this pictures we sent them could not be included in this report.

Home Depot Management,

After extensive shopping and price comparing we recently bought carpet from your store in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. We had our room measured three times from various carpet stores prior to your store coming out. Everyone else quoted our room to be 31.5 sq. Yards. Home Depot told us that the other quotes were wrong and we needed 36 to 38 sq. Yards.

After installation we have 10 sq. Yards of left over carpet, not including the many small strips or the piece cut from the entryway. We have an entryway that measures 4' X 3' so we expected one piece of large carpet left over but that should have been the only large piece of carpet waste. As you can see by the pictures included with this letter we had enough carpet left over to carpet the smallest bedroom in our house. Since installation is charged by the square yard installed we feel we were over charged for installation. We also feel we were charged for an excessive amount of carpet because of a disagreement we had with the store over a fee charged for needing to purchase under 37 sq. Yards.

Our charges for installation were $252.20 and $1 was charged for each tack strip. We were charged for 38 tack strips and after witnessing the extreme waste of carpet we measured the room and calculated the number of tack strips necessary. If they were placed end to end there was only enough room for 27 strips which would mean we were overcharged by $11 tax just for the strips. The installers were here from 12:45pm to just before 2:00pm, approximately one hour. Upon completion of installation they simply picked up their tools and left without cleaning up their mess. They left sharp staples, carpet pieces, and trash from the razor blades they used all over the floor. For $252 worth of professional installation you would expect they would at least clean up the large debris.

We would like to know if it is your policy to sell customers more carpet than they require and charge for installation of even the unused portion. They seemed to have the correct measurements for the padding that was part of the promotion. If the situation were reversed would your company accept this amount of waste.
