Carpetland Carpet One
Installation voids manufacturer warranties beware!

Construction & Repair

I contracted with Carpetland Carpet One to install carpeting in a basement. I chose this company because the salesman (John Kluska) said the installers were trained and certified. They installed the carpeting incorrectly (e.G. Not stretched properly, carpet coming up at edges, tack strips coming up, improper tack strips used due to size of room).

Shortly after the installation, I informed them that the carpet was not installed properly. They came out to inspect the carpet. Their "expert", Bill Bonner, indicated that they did not stretch it properly and that they should staple the carpet to the tack strips (a big no no). He later changed his story in court but I had the original meeting taped.

The manufacturer requires that they install the carpet according to CRI-105 (Carpet and Rug Institute Residential Installation). They said that because on the conditions on the back of the work order I signed said only a standard installation, that they did not have to conform to the CRI-105. I took them to court and have gotten them to settle for only a partial payment for the defective carpet installation. They argued that they did not have any standards to which they followed nor had to follow. They could "install it any way they wanted." Regardless of the fact that this voids the 10 year warranty from the manufacturer (Mohawk).

If you are getting carpet installed from Carpetland Carpet One or any other company, make sure you stipulate on the order that they follow CRI-105! IT will save you a lot of headache and if it comes to a lawsuit, it will be easier to prove they did not meet the standards they were supposed to.

I for one will never do business with this company nor any of the other companies that they are/have acquired. I believe this includes some Big Bobs Carpet stores.
