Ashville Mobile Home, Ripped off by company sending out damaged merchandise and then chargeing unsuspecting customers for replacement

Construction & Repair

I recently ordered two doors for my home from www.ashvillemobilehome.com and requested that they be delivered so I could install them while I was on R&R from my service in Iraq. The doors showed up 10 days later than what I was promised and after unpacking them I noticed that one of the doors was damaged despite the packaging being in good condition. I contacted Brent, the companies representitive, and he stated that since I discovered the damage within 24 hours, as was stated on their website at the time, that they would replace the door and would send a truck back for the damaged door. I agreed to this and installed the door that I had with no damage and returned to Iraq. About 3 weeks after I returned to Iraq I received an e-mail from Brent saying that he was charging me for the replacement door. See below—

Subject: Regarding your Past Order.

This is Brent Kuykendall from Ashville Mobile Homes. You will remember that we sent an order your way, where one of the doors was damaged.

The damage was discovered after delivery. No inspection was performed. Ashville Mobile Homes sent a replacement promptly as we could.

Because no inspection was performed at the time of delivery as mentioned in our policies online, in the shipping confirmation and finally printed out and tapped to the box, Averitt Express refused the claim on the grounds that the shipment was delivered clear.

I regret issues like this. We certainly cannot absorb the cost of the door and it's associated shipping cost. Had the shipment been inspected, this email would have never been sent.

I am only charging you the factory cost of the door, and the shipping cost. This totals $418.30 ($241 Factory Cost of Door, $177.30 for reshipping)

You are welcome to refute the charge on your credit card should you desire.

I responded to him stating that the damage was hidden and could not be seen until the door was completely removed from the packaging and he replied with—

In all fairness, you are right. Our site does state, but it's an error and will be changed shortly. Most freight companies will honor claim on such short notice, but this time is was denied out right (I don't see any chance for future success with it either).. We are the ones out at the moment. It is also a bit redundant. Hidden damage should be found upon any inspection.

Also, we have no use for the damaged door, so there is no need to ship back. Perhaps you may find a use for it.

I do thank you for being so understanding through this. I'll wait for the chargeback notice to come in.

I am currently having to fight this through my bank and that is an issue do to the limited availability of communications that we have available over here.

I would like for all people to be aware of this type of business as they are obviously out to line their own pockets instead of doing the right thing. Brent continues to try and process the charges for the door and refuses to answer any more of my e-mails.
