UPS Delivery Driver Threw Box and Damaged Front Doo

I ordered some luggage which was shipped 03/05/09 via UPS. When I arrived home and retrieved the package from the front step, I realized the magnetic brass kick plate had fallen off and appeared to be damaged. The metal had separated from the magnetic piece.
Upon closer inspection, I saw the brass plate was dented and had scratches consistent with a large box being thrown.
I called UPS, they spoke with the driver who indicated he'd left the item on the left side of the door. He didn't; it was left to the right of the door, where the damage was.
They sent a Liberty Mutual adjustor out who took some photos, looked at the box (that also had damage but he insisted that was done in the warehouse). The man was a complete jerk, stating he didn't think the box caused the damage. I know it did. He said he'd forward his report and they'd be in touch with me. Right..
It's not a big ticket item, but I think it's really crappy the driver damaged my door and I have to replace the damaged part.
I'm going to ask companies I frequently receive shipments from to use an alternate.
