Long Wait And Hard To Understand Agent For Emergency Flight Booking

I need to make emergency flight reservations due to a family illness. (I have over 600,000 pts.) I would consider myself as a customer in good standings and a member of amex. Since 1961.
Why did it take 15 minutes to talk to someone and the they did not speak understandable English?
