Failure to Delive

I've ordered an item from Amazon. UPS is the carrier. I tracked my package and it said that it was en route. The scheduled delivery was November 23. I waited for my package. At 6:20 pm of that date, I tracked my package in Amazon and it said failure to deliver secondary to external factors. I tracked in the UPS site and it said that they missed my package in the facility. How could they do that? I expected that they would deliver the next business day but they did not. It was their fault that my package was missed and they did not even attempt to deliver the next business day. I dont live far from their facility. I waited for nothing.
