Delray Mitsubishi
Service / Warranty Rip Off

Cars & Transport

We have had an on going problem with our 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with the front tires wearing and the vehicle pulling to the right and Delray Mitsubishi refuses to fix it. The following is a short synopsis in a letter sent to Delray MItsubishi.

I leased a 2000 Monetro Sport from you guys a little over a year ago. As soon as we took delivery of the car we realized that the car pulled to the right and soon after noticed that the tires were wearing on the outer edges, also the transmission slipped real bad between gears. When we brought the car to your shop for the first service we told the service writer about these problems and were told at that time that all Monteros wore their tires on the outer edges. Your service department refused to check the alignment and we were told that if they put it on the alignment rack and it did not need alignment we would be charged $80.00. At that time I asked them to just fix the problem. We were also told that you could not fix the transmission because there was not a factory service bulletin for that problem even though the service people admitted there was definitely a problem. We were also told to rotate the tires every 3000 miles when the owner's manual says to do it every 7500 miles. The service manager, Robin, drove the car and said she saw nothing wrong with it. We have had the vehicle back to you shop on two other occasions since that first service and were told the same thing both times. We have rotated the tires every 3000 to 5000 miles and now at 20,000 miles we need to purchase new tires. The car obviously pulls to the right, wears only on the outer tread and is obviously cambered out if you look from straight in front of the car. At one of the services a tire was a little low on air and Robin said that is the problem. I do not see how one tire being low on air once can continue to wear all four tires. The transmission was finally worked on six months after we first reported the problem. I have repeatedly (5 times now) asked for the district service manager to all us since no one will give us his phone number and have yet to get one call back.

#1 If all Monterors wear their front tires (I've been told this by three of your service writers and your service manager) there is a manufacturing / design problem and Mitsubishi is responsible for all problems that arise from that.

#2 - It should never take 6 months to fix a slipping transmission for any reason. There is a large safety concern here. My wife refused to drive the car because of the transmission slipping. When we brought the car in for the transmission repair we were asked to authorize a $75.00 charge even though the repair would be done under warranty.

#3 As stated above the tires on the vehicle are worn to an unsafe level within 20,000 miles. This is not normal and new tires need to be installed on the vehicle at no-charge to us. You also need to repair the front end so this does not happen again. If you are unable or unwilling to do this I will contact Mitsubishi and tell them that we will return the car due to the dealership's inability to repair it to a safe driving condition.

Please have your general manager or the district service manager (6th. Request) contact me.
