Service Department is a joke... Ripoff!

Cars & Transport

My husband recently had his 2007 GMC Sierra into this dealer for the third or fourth time to have his routine service done... You know the basics... Oil change, etc. Prior to this he had had the service done at various other GM dealers as he is active duty in the military and not often in the same place for long periods of time. This dealer is not only out to take advantage of their customers, they will call incessantly for "were you 100% satisfied with your service."

His truck, which he purchased in October in Massachusetts, has slightly over 27,000 miles on it and it has always been dealer serviced. He noticed that he had a significant problem with his tires... Not one tire in particular but all his tires, as in they are cracking and he has had pieces of rubber come off. My husband is not a young kid (he is over age 40) and does not use his pickup as a work truck. It is just your standard everyday V-6 non - 4X4 regular pickup, and it is not driven hard. Service advisor wrote on the work order that "Customer wants to know why tires are cupping." Cupping (even I, a girl, know that this is caused by uneven wear), but this is not what my husband said, he had a problem with he said cracking, service advisor wrote cupping.

He brought this to the attention of the service department as his vehicle is under warranty. Well, the nice service advisor (apparently named Tony Decills), asked if this was his very first brand new truck. My husband said yes, although my husband has had significant experience with trucks as he can drive 26' foot moving trucks, has done towing, can drive military 5 ton trucks, and has held an inspection license etc. Well Mr. Service Advisor tried telling my husband that his tire problem was caused by him not rotating the tires often enough. My husband told the service advisor that each time he had the car in for service that if it was time to have the tires rotated, that not only was it always done and they charge him for it and that he has all his service receipts from day one, what would rotation have to do with the fact that the rubber and quality of the tire is crap? This service guy then proceeded to print out an "estimate" of what it would cost to buy 4 brand new 17 inch tires at close to $200 each telling my husband they are not covered under warranty. That this was an uneven wear problem.

Just because a tech says he is ASE certified, would you want an ASE certified tire tech changing your engine? Anyone who worked at a tire place would immediately see what my husband was talking about. My husband said that he has also seen the service people at this dealership try selling all kinds of unnecessary stuff to older vulnerable senior citizens (whom are probably the majority of the customers of this business.) We took the truck across the street to Register Chevrolet, who took a look, told us how to go about filing for a customer claim #, how to contact the manufacturer of the tires in regards to warranty replacement, and the name of another five star GMC dealer to take our truck to for service work. We will not be going back, and we advise others not to either.
