Ford mercury ripoff mountaineer 3rd brake light $500 fix swindlers detroit michigan

I have a 1997 merc. Mountaineer the third brake light has shorted out because of poor design. Cost for fix $500.00
why because they have high output light. You have to drill out the trim to replace. NO other place to buy. This is the first thing taken when one shows up in junk yard this is a ongoing problem and they do not wish to fix thier/my problem.
