Foss Auto Salvage
Improperly Secured Load on Tractor Trailer Causes Damage to Vehicle

Cars & Transport

On March 6 at 8:43 am I was traveling to work via Hwy 40E towards downtown Raleigh, NC. As I was merging onto the hwy via Gorman St a tractor trailer traveling in the same direction passed me carrying a load of crushed cars. The cars on the trailer had been wrapped in mesh netting in an attempt to keep debris from falling off. The netting itself however, was falling off the cars due to wind. A piece of metal came from the engine well of one of the cars and cracked my windshield.

After some maneuvering through traffic I was able to write down the phone number of the trucking company as well as the truck number posted on the cab. I called the number as soon as I got to work and left a message. No response. I called the next day, Friday, and left another message. When Tuesday morning of the next week rolled around and I still hadnt gotten a response I looked the company up online. After finding alternate phone numbers and talking to a number of receptionists I was put in contact with Nate Pipkin in the Greenville NC office.

After telling him what happened he informed me there is no way Foss Auto Salvage will cover the damage you should have either stopped the driver when it happened or gotten the piece of debris that broke your windshield. Im sorry to say, but your just going to have to chalk it up as a simple road hazard HA! Lets take that from the beginning. Those of you who have traveled down 40E through downtown Raleigh at that time on a weekday morning know that is a joke! And what truck driver in his right mind would pull over for some nut in a car waiving and pointing to the side of the road? Insane.

This is ridiculous. There have got to be laws about properly securing a load on the back of a big rig. Nate is obviously giving me the run around hoping I will forget about this situation. I will not. This company obviously does not care about the safety of other people on the road. This time it was just a broken windshield due to a small piece of debris coming off an improperly secured load of crushed vehicles. What happens when a larger piece of debris smashes into someone else? With such a nonchalant attitude about simple road hazards falling from their tucks, Foss Auto Salvage is in serious need of a wake up call!
