0119 delay in refering me cost me a weeks car rental

On Wed. 9/5/07 we brought a 1999 ford escort wagon that was leaking water to this pep boys. After agreeing to pay $30.00 for a pressure test, they advised they needed to drop the transmission at a cost of $479.00 since they neded to see this area to diagnose the problem. $500.00 for them to guess what the problem was?

By this time we were there 2 hours and no one had a clue, idea, or way to look up if this car had freeze plugs between the trans and engine where the leak was. The woman at the front desk had the nerve to ask me what I was going to do if I had to pay the $479.00 and they still couldn't see the problem! (I felt like I was dealing with Moe, Larry and Curly) I told her I start making phone calls and was d* good at it. The service mgr. Was off that day and I assured her I knew she had his number.

Another front desk person arrived who said he "used to be a mechanic" and had just recently, as a side job, fixed the same problem on the same year and model car and it had no freeze plugs there. The problem was the seal on the rear cooling housing (?) and the price went up to $757.00 (the mechanics in the back still didn't know if it had freeze plugs) and promised it fixed and returned by noon the next day (Thurs).

At 7:55pm that night they hadn't even dropped the trans..."but we got the part in". Thursday the service mgr. Called and said their shop doesn't do any work where the trans has to be dropped. They farm it out to a trans shop up the road. He doesn't know why they even accepted the job when they realized what had to be done, but since they did he would fix it if we left it there and hopefully ready Fri evening and would rent a car 1 day for us. (do you think I trusted them at that point?) Even though Pep Boys didn't charge me for their comedy of errors, my son-in-law is out 2 day's pay and a week car rental because the trans shop (where it should have gone Wed. Morning) cannot even look at it untill Monday and he has to work all weekend. MOE, LARRY and CURLEY cost us a bundle, just for crossing their threshold!
