Gm
Dex-cool caused premature failure of intake manifold gasket Ripoff Detroit Michigan

Cars & Transport

I own a 1998 Chevy Express conversion van with 114,000 miles. I changed the coolant at 98,000 miles and always maintained a full resevoir level.

Today, I was informed it needs an intake manifold gasket replacement costing $850.00. The mechanic further told me this is a common occurrance for GM vehicles using Dex-cool. If this coolant is causing problems such as the one I am experiencing I believe GM has an obligation to fix it.

Of course this had to happen the day before leaving on our Christmas vacation. I am really trying to give GM a chance to make good on this before I totally write them off, again, as my first choice for a vehicle. I am the father of four children and will never recommend a GM product to my kids if this situation is not corrected.
