Store Credit Card Declined After Account Canceled Without Notice

For more than ten years I carried a Home Depot store credit card and was NEVER late once. But Citibank, it seems, re-checks your credit repeatedly, and every check counts against you and hurts your score. The balance on my account was zero, and I was at the register in a Home Depot, ready to pay.

The Citibank, N.A. card I used there was declined. That account dated back to 1997! The Head Cashier walked up and asked whether I had a different way to pay. She was quite rude and sneered at me as though I had no money!

Plenty of other payment options were in my wallet, cash included, but I refused to use them until I understood the problem. I called Home Depot, which really means calling Citibank. Citibank had never told me that it re-runs your credit repeatedly, every year, and it chose to cancel my account without telling me. The woman on the line said two items on my credit report, neither of them credit cards, made me delinquent. So do not believe anyone who says good credit with certain companies is guaranteed, because Citibank and Home Depot prove otherwise!

Home Depot looks bad here along with Citibank. I will not shop at Home Depot again, and Lowe's is nearer to me anyway. I found a website against Home Depot and posted my own story there too. I never gave Citibank permission to check my credit again and again, and I was NEVER behind on any payment. Thanks to Citibank, Home Depot lost a shopper of over 10 years.
