Credit Card Interest Rate Raised From 23.17 to 49.39

Looking for help. The following is my own opinion.
I received my Home Depot credit card statement in the mail today and surprise... My interest rate went from 23.17 to 49.39. No, that is not a typo, 49.39%.
Instantly I got on the phone with Home Depot. They informed me that there was a notice of this outlandish increase sent to me back in February 09, and that the supposed cancellation date had passed and that I was stuck with my lovely new rate.
You know that I canceled the card. I need help knowing my rights. I do not want to take this lying down. I am outraged, this is not right. How can anyone in the US get away with that kind of thievery? Yes, Home Depot thievery!
If there is a lawyer out there who has the stones to take on Home Depot and I "think" Citi Bank, think BIG and contact me. I am furious and want compensation. Act fast, because I will seek local counsel.
There is sarcasm in the preceding statement, but the facts are the truth. I feel violated. The interest increase was not of my agreement and is not what I agreed to. Can this constitute breach of contract on Home Depot's part? Can they legally charge that much interest? Will they come break my legs if I do not pay? Please, someone give me some legal facts (for Missouri laws).
