Washer and Dryer 12-Month Promo Account Sold to Collections

Last year we purchased a washer and dryer from Sears on a new Sears account. We never received a statement, but it was a 12-month, no-interest, no-payment plan, so we didn't think about it much. In January we tried to find our account number to make payments before the promo was up and got the runaround.

Every time we called, it got harder and harder to get anything accomplished, and we couldn't even get our account number. They said they would send a statement, and we never got it. It appears that the address tied to the account was an old address. No wonder we never got statements before. When we made the purchase, we had already been at our address for about three years, and the washer and dryer were sent to this address!

They said security would call to confirm it was really us. They never called.

We were told our balance was about $700 more than our original purchase because of late fees. We should never have received late fees because of our promo.

Finally, still trying to find a way to just pay off our card, we were told it had been sold to a collections agency in March, two months and several hours of phone calls after we had been trying to take care of the issue.

I feel like they sold our account right when they figured out our correct address and before we could correctly call them on their errors. Now that it is in the hands of a collections company, they won't talk to us. I don't know what kind of recourse we have regarding the unfair late fees.

We are more than happy to pay off our washer and dryer. After all, our receipt says no interest, no payment for 12 months. April is the end of that period.
