Stay away unless you're sure you'll never have hard times... Impossible to get back on track. Ft. Lauderdale

I was a customer of AMEX for 3 years, and always made my payments, no problem. I fell into some very difficult times, and had to go on a debt management program. My other cards were very cooperative since my credit score is high. I didn't pay my AMEX bill one month because I was told they would be participating with my program. A month later I found out that AMEX would NOT join my program. This means I missed one payment one month, sheerly because of the misunderstanding... It's been hell ever since. I've tried to work with them, more than the average customer, I'm sure, but nothing is good enough. Not only am I harrassed every day by their collection agency (who is impossible to work with), but they are adding $300 a month in late fees to my balance. It has already gone up $2,000. I feel completely hopeless as they will not work with me and I have no way of getting a loan to pay this off. I also cannot apply for any new credit or else I will be kicked off my debt program.

Stay AWAY from American Express unless you know that you will never have financial troubles.
