Payment status changed from completed to held after item shipped

PayPal is a dishonest company. Two weeks ago I received a payment through PayPal for an item I sold on eBay. The payment status was then "completed," which, according to PayPal, meant the payment had been deposited into my account. Therefore, I shipped the item to the buyer. A week later, I saw the payment status had changed to "Held," which meant the payment from the buyer was held by PayPal. They changed the status without informing me. If I had not checked my account, I would have had no time to argue with them. I have sent them several emails asking about the change, but they have never responded, although they promised to respond to customer inquiries within 2 days.
