Dish Network
Steer well clear of their Internet Services

TV & Radio

I have had Dish Network as a cable provider for years. They have always provided a solid television service for me and I have never had any problems. Their costumer service is atrocious but I have never had any significant issues with their service, and the techs I have had come to the house have all be outstanding. My issue has been with their internet service. I live in an area where it is either satellite or dial-up. We decided to leave dial-up behind and go with this service. Now after speaking to several people here in the valley I have come to the conclusion that the techs and customer service reps must be coached to avoid questions towards FAP and bandwidth caps beforehand. I was personally told that I would not have any problems, I quote "You can download all night and day and still have full bandwidth." I thought this was a dream as I do not download much but it will be great to finally work on online coursework at home. I moved back to care for my mother while she battles cancer and I planned on continuing my studies online until I could return to school full time. It didn't even start off at the promised speed. I was forced to drop all my classes because I could not load the coursework. This was before my first FAP. When the FAP hit I could not even load a single webpage. So in order to keep myself within bandwidth I disabled all of my routine windows, antivirus updates etc and do them at internet cafes. One time I needed to set up the updates on the DISH service because my mother was bedridden and I knew I wouldn't be able to hit the internet cafe anytime soon. So I figured I could go a few days under the FAP without internet. 36 DAYS it was off, I went over a month without the internet, this is a month I paid for a service I did not receive. This incident would repeat itself 5 months later. Right now I can get online about 2 hours a day 4 days a week. Other times it is just too slow to load a google page. There was actually a local town hall meeting called recently in regards to this. Everyone who had made the switch from Dial-Up had similar stories to tell. We have decided to inform the members of the county through the internet and encourage them not to renew their contracts with dish, as well all had planned anyways. We will be starting a community pool in order to help those who cannot afford the discontinuation fees involved. It has gotten pretty bad, even though their cable service has been fine for me I will be cancelling that service as well. Direct TV may be more expensive but I spoke with their costumer service and was thrilled to have a friendly and engaging individual on the other end of the line. So my bottom line is, steer clear of their internet service. It is not a service at all, and they do not treat loyal costumers very well at all.
