Locals Unavailable, Then $400 Cancellation Fee and Credit Report

I wanted to share my story in hopes that it will help people who are thinking of switching to or getting this service. I would say DON'T. Read all comments available and listen to us all, because we are trying to save you a lot of trouble. To make a very long story short, they promised me that, with my package, I would be able to receive local channels in my zip code area. After they hooked me up, I found out it would be 6 weeks before I got my locals. I wasn't told that when I made my order. Six weeks later I called back and was then told I could not get them in my area. So I told them to cut my service off, and I sent back their equipment.

They took out two payments from my account the first month. I found out only then that it is mandatory to pay one month in advance. So I thought I was through with them and would just move on and learn from this. Boy was I wrong. Besides harassing calls, they are claiming I owe them 400.00 dollars for canceling. Not only that, they have me at the credit bureau. They did not give me my locals as promised, so I don't see why I owe them. I have had sleepless nights because of them.

The only good thing that came out of this is that I was able to outsmart them once. Something told me in my gut to go close my checking account before the next monthly due date. Somehow I had a feeling they were going to try to get that 400.00 quickly. They did try, but it was denied. Always do what your gut feeling tells you to do.

I am trying to find options on how to fight them on this matter, but it looks like I will need a lawyer. That is what you will end up with if you go with them. DirecTV should be sued and taken out of business. PLEASE DON'T sign up with them! This is just a little bit of my problem with them, but I hope I painted a clear enough picture. They also never sent my monthly payment in advance back. If there is a way for all of us to fight against them as a group, count me in.
